Expensive Shrimp in Chili-Butter Sauce Replaced with Raw Beef to Save Money and for Better Health
Summer vacation time! My 8 year old boy was with me Monday in my office. He had a great time with me. I had a great time. Lunch time and he said he wanted shrimp in chilli-butter sauce. Okay, we went downstairs to Farmers Market Dampa and asked how much: 100 pesos for 3 shrimps! Steeeeeeppppp!!!
I suggested we just buy some 1 kilo of fresh raw shrimp and have it cooked for 150 pesos. While choosing shrimp, the prices were from 350 pesos to 450 pesos per kilo! Steeeppppeeerrr!!!
My son was getting hungry from all the walking and asking in the market. It finally sinked into him that shrimp was really very very expensive. Even if we picked the 350 per kilo shrimp + 150 peso fee cooking equals 500 pesos total expense.
So back to my hungry son, he suggested out of his own internal thoughts that we should have RAW BEEF instead! He said raw beef was much cheaper and raw beef is becoming a more appealing deal now that he was VERY HUNGRY.
So we happily went to the beef side of the wet market and we chose the most tender cut of sirloin. 290 pesos per kilo. We got more than 4 kilos for taking home as our stock for the coming holy week vacation. We got 450 grams for our combined lunch… which came out only 130 pesos… for the two of us! And we were stuffed!
So the butchers there who weren’t familiar with us saw a small boy eating raw beef plain with nothing in it. We picked the best looking best tasting one so it didn’t need any flavoring, this beef had its own flavor with it.
We went back to my office, got some chopsticks and got filled up fast. Super cheap, superior cleanliness, best nutrition… raw beef is so much better than cooked chilli-butter shrimp. Seems the shrimp were fresh water farmed anyway compared to the pasture / grass fed beef.
Yes, I’m succeeding, my son picked raw beef out of his own free will!
