How to Avoid Heat Stroke in this Awfully Hot Summer 2010
This just in the news: “Metro Manila stewed and sizzled Wednesday, by far its hottest day of the year, with the maximum temperature hitting 37.3 degrees Celsius at around 3 p.m.” — Philippine Daily Inquirer, Thursday April 29, 2010. Not news to me, I felt it.
How we keep cool during these summer times: water melons, coconut juice with coconut meat ice cold, raw meats and raw fat, cool cucumbers as vegetables, cold guavas, air conditioners, electric fans, cold showers. Eat and drink often. It is frequency and not quantity that matters, you can only hydrate so much. And raw fat is important as it is better regulated by your body than plain old water. Food is better regulated by your body for fluids.
My 8 year old boy knows. You drink plain water, it goes through you. I let the kids have as much ice cubes as they want in their drink. They are self regulated beings themselves.
Heat stroke can be fatal! I remember in the old days my grandfather had a heat stroke and I had to rescue him from his other family. I don’t know why his other family didn’t take him to the hospital, why they waited for me.
Yesterday a cousin suffered heat stroke and his wife called his brother to attend to him because she was busy with children? That my cousin didn’t want to go to the hospital? Don’t skimp on hydration… use cool watermelons, then coconuts with coconut meat, then raw eggs in that order.
Stay cool. We will survive this.
